“Stillness” Invoke the feeling of serenity. Find a place you can go to without distractions and deadlines. Spend a few moments to breathe in the peace and stillness into your heart

“Many Lives” This drawing was created using only pastel pencils: black, blue, pink and white. Variations of shading were used with only these pencils on a toned violet pastel paper. The subject matter was intuitive. I didn’t know who would be showing up next. All the faces shown were in the paper that I enhanced with the pastel pencils

“Be One With All Creation” This drawing of a tree was randomly drawn out to fill a sheet of glass, ink was applied to form a tree and bark Paper was laid over the inked glass, lifted and dried. It was later filled in with pastel chalk dust applied with a cotton ball

“Sitting Bull” This was my first attempt at adding colors to this pastel drawing. I followed the placement of the features and structure on his hair and buckskin top while looking at a brown toned photograph. Trusting that the pastels I choose would be the right ones and put in the correct places. Layers of pastel colors were overlaying each other before lightly blending them together to create this life-like portrait

“Bulges” Various thicknesses of curved lines were drawn in an irregular format to give the illusions of “bulges.” This pencil drawing was completed with colored pencils to enhance the 3D effect

“Finches” Colored pencil was used to describe the forms of these four yellow finches. The background was applied with light blue chalk dust

“Cathedral Patterns” This design was originally drawn on paper with a pencil. The inspiration for this drawing was to look at the architecture of some of the old churches in Europe that focused on cathedral ceilings and arches. Stonework and designs were used to create patterns that enhanced the forms with ink

“Cucumbers” This drawing was originally created a a preliminary sketch and final drawing before doing a mural on a kitchen wall. It was necessary to see if the drawing could be accented with color and make it look real

“Feather on Bowl”

“Withered Leaves” As leaves fall off the tree it pulls its energy inward, preparing for winter. months ahead. Autumn is invites you to release what no longer serves you . A time of reflection. Ask for Divine Guidance in this new undertaking

Long Haired Cat — “Long Haired Cat” This cat was drawn from a photograph. The media used in this drawing was shades of brown and white conte crayons on pastel paper

“Indian on Black Horse with Cowboy” My inspiration for this pastel drawing was created to show a class I was going to teach students how to draw horses. I did the drawing on pastel paper with a neutral colored chalk and the images in this drawing was built up with overlapping layers of pastels before rubbing them lightly together with my ring finger to blend to give a painted like effect

“Pencil Bulges” Exercise in the study of VALUE/shading using different grades of drawing pencils in each row

“Smokehouse” This smokehouse, built in the 1700’s during the Colonial period. I was interested in the fine detail of the rocks on this building. I felt that stippling/pointillism was a good technique to describe the texture of the surroundings with pen and ink

“Spring Valley Barn” Spring Valley Heritage Farm. located in Schaumburg, Illinois. Pencil drawing done on location. Used color photographs so that the painting could be done after the drawing was in place. Focus was making it as realistic as the photograph and worked with ‘negative painting’ in the foreground.

“Studies in Value and Contrast”

“Baton Rouge Estate” Pencil drawing on location using different grade of pencil leads: 2B-6B and an ebony pencil to create these 3D forms

“Chapel in Moose, WY” Chapel of Transfiguration located in the National Park of the Grand Tetons. I focused on drawing of the composition and negative painting

“Old Farmhouse” Farm located in southern Illinois in Earlville. This drawing was superimposed over a warm watercolor background. Brown watercolor paint was used to describe the farm lines along with washes of that color for the shadows

Cowboy Reading to an Indian — “Cowboy Reading to Indian” The main reason for doing this pastel drawing was to learn to create ‘realistic surfaces’ such as the shine on the cowboy’s watch, the smooth texture of his jacket and hat that depicts the material itself

“Deserted Farm House” Bringing some primary colors into an otherwise forgotten farm brings attention to this deserted farm. The drawing was superimposed over a watercolor wash background
